Hello!
Hello you! Been a nicer week in that the heat has died down somewhat so its a bit easier to live as a human. Work was rubs though, so swings and roundabouts. As such didn’t get up to much but have a few things for this week.
Its not the years honey, its the mileage
Did a Dial of Destiny this week, and it was good!
Now, I never had as much of an issue with Crystal Skull as some corners of the internet did. It wasn’t a top notch amazing film, but it was a fun adventure romp with some great set pieces. Yes, the monkey scene was annoying and all that but otherwise I had a good time with it.
Its a similar story here, but without Shia LaBeouf which instantly makes it a better film. Well, thats probably a bit harsh of LaBeouf; Skull was in his live action Transformers period which wasn’t the best time for him to be cast in another high profile film like this. He doesn’t actively bring the film to its knees, but also doesn’t quite fit in the film.
Anyways, the new one; we’ve got Nazis back as bad guys, an extra grizzled Harrison Ford and a different director. All of which adds up to…yeah, a good film.
Spoilers on!
Whilst you may think “ugh, Nazis” again, the way it brings them back tying them into Operation Paperclip is really interesting. And this ties into the year the film is set, 1969 which is when the feeling of ‘yeah, but what did we win?’ really started to worm its way into society. We do get a flashback to 1949 with a de-aged Harrison Ford that is at once really good and also stands out a mile. When its his face then its impressive how well it works, but as soon as he stands up you can’t hide the fact that its an 80 year old actor walking around with a young face.
But still, once you’re past that Ford brings his usual grizzled charm, and the supporting cast are good fun as well. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a great foil to Ford, invoking Temple of Doom era Indy whilst Mads Mikkelsen brings his usual energy to the film.
Its easily half an hour too long, the final act is also something that you’ll either go with or bounce right off. But when that music kicks in and Indy’s biffing Nazi’s right in the chops? Thats the stuff.
Time For Wrestling Chat
I’ve been dipping in and out of AEW and a bit of WWE for the past few weeks; caught CM Punk’s return on the new show Collision, Sting doing insane things and a bit of the recent WWE show in London.
And its all been fun and enjoyable, just nothing quite grabbing me at the moment. I have been enjoying the stuff with The Elite and the Blackpool Combat Club, just finding the time to watch the shows is a bit of a pain at the moment. I would like to watch it with the youngest but crowd chants seem to go straight to the F-bombs at the moment which is a bit annoying.
Also, there was further proof that Roman Reigns really is an all timer.
New Stuff this week
