Hello!

Hello you! That was a busier day than I thought it would be; a morning going round a local SkillZone open day, then because its sunny an afternoon washing all the beds and mowing the lawn. Unfortunately all that supersedes the newsletter, despite the usual protests.

I’m Phil, this is my newsletter and this week pollen has been kicking me straight in the eye.

Blue Beetle? Happy Beetle more like

So last week we went to see Blue Beetle which feels like the last film in the summer blockbuster season. Was it a great ending or a damp squib?

Pretty good, I’d say!

Blue Beetle felt like something that would fall between the cracks of the old Synder DCEU tranche of movies being wound up and the James Gunn led era beginning. Your man Gunn did confirm that the film is part of his era of films, which makes sense given it releasing post-Flash.

And I’d say its better than that film.

This film has the modern version of the character; the comic Blue Beetle goes right back to 1939, which was then revised as a new version of the character in the Silver Age. The new Beetle, Jaime Reyes, was introduced in 2006 and he was a much different version of the character. Previously, Blue Beetle was a crime fighter, initially with some powers but essentially a dude in an outfit. Reyes has a space scarab that gives him an Iron Man style suit that can create any weapon he fancies.

And thats what we get here, with references to the previous versions chucked in. Jaime finds the scarab, gets attached to it then gets caught up in the corporation that wants it back so they can finish off building their version of the suit, the One Man Army Corp.

And its good! Its in the colourful end of the DC films spectrum which is always appreciated, Jaime has a great supporting cast around him that aren’t just there for decoration. They get some cracking moments of their own as the film barrels along. We also get Susan Sarandon chewing as much scenery as they’ll let her.

So its a good watch, falls a bit in the “big CG fight at the end” trap most super hero films do but it does it with a lot of charm which carries it a long way.

Soundtrack is cracking as well.

YouTube is Weird

Posted a short this week because another Transformer showed up, which did well I think but who knows because the way Shorts get boosted then cut off by the All-Mighty Algorithm is always weird:

Look at that! No sense at all. The video for the week didn’t go as nuts as the one about Gods but still did okay:

YouTube is just weird, man. But then, because the Gods video blew up a tiny amount some guy saw it, then commented saying that he was going to marathon the rest of the Mean Machines videos. And he did! That was nice, but still; poor fella.

Bye!

That’ll do for now, I have played some games this week including the recent new Double Dragon so will try and get some words down about that.

Anyways, bye!
