Intro
Boom! Here we again, post WrestleMania and Superstar Shakeup with nothing to look forward to apart from a big daft Royal Rumble in the Middle East of all places. And a cage match to look forward to! Ha, well we'll get to that later. Words! -The Conquistabores
NXT Thoughts
Lars Sullivan looks like someone Vince would have got in to wrestle Undertaker in the early 90s but actually has wrestling ability
Boy, they like Adam Cole down there don’t they?
Aleister Black really is the real deal but you do kind of worry about how it’ll go when he’s up on Raw or Smackdown.
Such a smart decision to put Gargano/Ciampa on last. Yeah, it wasn’t for a belt but you wouldn’t be able to follow the emotion of that match with pretty much anything else. Totally the right decision
And the match! A wonderful entrance by Ciampa with no music just the pure vitriol of the fans being spat at him. A great story, some great spots that called back to previous matches and the right winner. The only thing it was missing was (whisper it) a bit of blood. If any feud called for a red mask to underscore the depth of the hatred between the two wrestlers, it was this one. Still, overall pretty much faultless.

That ladder match was incredible. Consider that Ricochet’s first move in WWE was a Shooting Star Press to the arena floor. EC3 is fab and even Lars and Killian had a great match when you thought that a ladder match might not be their natural home. Velveteen Dream is also an absolute gem.
Aleister Black is awesome.
Gargano/Ciampa went a slight bit long for me but it was an amazing match.

That ladder match...oh god that match. What an amazing opener and introduction for Richochet and EC3 to WWE. Can’t wait to see the reign of ADAM COLE BABY!!!!!!!
Aleister Black vs. Almas was also a great semi main with Almas finally Fading to Black
I can't see Gargano vs. Ciampa being beaten this year, it would take something very, very special
Ciampa's entrance with no music and the nuclear hot heat including a very not PG chant in the crowd. More of that please NXT!

WrestleMania Thoughts
What a hot opening match, all three came out of it with positives. Well. Except maybe Balor, he feels a bit empty at the moment cutting about with his jacket and his smile. Feels like he needs something to get his teeth into. With Gallows and Anderson stuck in the Andre Battle Royale doesn’t give The Club the cache they deserve and need to be a really properly over faction
Speaking of which, the Andre goes on first on the pre-show? With no entrances for anyone? Oh boy.
The Women’s Battle Royale felt better because there seemed to be actual thought as to how most of it was laid out, with the NXT ladies then the other factions all leading into the finish.
Asuka losing was a genuine shock; it felt like a good time to put the belt on her but, I guess, having Charlotte conquer the unconquerable gives her an even bigger rub that help when she’s in a ring standing opposite Ronda Rousey
And wasn’t she good? In the build-up this felt a bit daft; just sticking her in with various part timers, even if Stephanie McMahon is one of the best on the mic. Problem is, she was never the best wrestler so the thought of her going toe to toe with an actual MMA badass made none of the sense. But then, in the ring, it worked like a dream because of that. Of course Stephanie couldn’t hope of matching her skill, so she’ll just be a big cheating bastard to get whatever edge she could. It wasn’t a great pure wrestling match but it was top drawer sports entertainment.
The best pure wrestling match was later with AJ and Nakamura. Which…was good? I mean it was, but after their last match it felt like a step down. It wasn’t like they didn’t have time, they had 20 minutes so just a bit less than they had in NJPW. But at the end, what was missing showed itself; a bit of bite to the story. A Nakamura heel turn, hopefully leading a US version of Chaos back when they were villains would be ace. Thinking about it, this should have been the match down on the PPV before the Royal Rumble then built to Mania.
Braun Strowman’s partner was pure wrestling, brilliantly done.
Roman Reigns just can’t catch a break. Positioning him opposite Lesnar and accentuating the part time stuff seemed to be bringing the fans round on him, but nope. Don’t think I’ve heard a “this is awful” chant before. But then so much was going against this match; Lesnar’s style has boiled down to “suplex then F5”, which worked against Goldberg because the matches were done so quick. But any longer than that and it just doesn’t work. Think about it, his best matches in recent memory outside of Goldberg? All multi-man matches. So you have that style at the end of a five hour show? Not ideal. It could work, if you have the right guy against him for the crowd to side with. But they just won’t accept Reigns, despite all the great work he’s done, so the match doesn’t stand a chance. Think the best thing out of this will be a Reigns heel turn. After all, he took all that including being busted open by Lesnar in a pretty stiff fashion and they still booed him? Turn him heel to lean into that then let the natural baby face turn happen when it needs to.
Nice to see Undertaker getting a payday, I guess, but the less said about Cena overshadowing Charlotte’s victory the better
Daniel Bryan can wrestle again and all is good with the world. Should this have been the main event to end the show with a bang? Maybe
A good solid show, that when it was good was really good. Problem was the card didn’t feel like it was built right, especially when the NXT show the day before showed how to do it.
-Phil
Opening triple threat was great. I really like all three involved but it seemed like a natural time for Miz to drop the title (especially as he’s off to Smackdown in the draft now). Hopefully Seth does great things
Asuka losing I’m not sure about. If they’re building for Charlotte versus Rousey next year then fair enough but I’m never usually a fan of Royal Rumble winners losing at WrestleMania. The match itself was probably the best of the night from a pure wrestling stand point though
I’m so, so happy for Daniel Bryan. Booking Shane as anywhere near competitive against Owens and Sayn is daft though but then he’s a McMahon and everybody knows McMahon skin is bulletproof.
The Nicholas stuff was stupid. Funny stupid, memorable stupid but still stupid
AJ versus Nakamura didn’t quite live up to the expectation. I’m glad they’re getting the chance to go around again with Shinsuke as the defined heel. ‘Sorry, no speak English’ should be a new t-shirt
I skipped Lesnar and Reigns. They were boring two years ago, they’re even more dull now
-Cam
First half of the show was great (Triple Threat, Asuka vs. Charlotte, Ronda FUCKING Rousey) was great but it fell off a cliff that it never could recover from. Maybe try not having the show go 50 hours and people might be able to get through the show without wanting to end themselves. Unpopular opinion I know but I didn't rate this WrestleMania at all.

WrestleMania Prediction Results
And the results are in! Yeah, I’m the best. Essentially, I won it because I bothered to put in a pick for the Andre and got it bang on right. And also correctly put all my chips on Nia Jax to win. Although, it wasn’t the easiest WrestleMania to callso not all their fault. -Phil Phil, you’re just inventing games to win now aren’t you? That Bushwhackers thing still scratches doesn’t it? -Cam
