0800 - Great Movies Christmas

We’ll just get this out of the way now; for the entire Christmas period this channel will be pumping out a quite frankly insane amount of Christmas films pretty much 24/7. So if you ever need random festive background noise for any of your plans over the Christmas period, its here for you. Thats it, we’ll never mention it again.

1815 - BBC2

I’m not sure if any of the yoots, as Vinny Gambini would say, have any idea what this show is any more but it was still all over the schedules 10 years after it was originally broadcast as I was growing up. So I still have a soft spot for it, enough to flag it here in case anyone else of a similar age feels the same.

1845 - Film4

A belter of a film, still one of the best films over the last ten years or so, regardless of it being animated or a super hero film. Its just a good film, full stop, full of heart and emotion and stunning visuals. Its always worth taking for a swing, pardon the pun

1900 - BBC4

In a bit of scheduling that has a lot of “hold my beer” energy, the folks at BBC4 clearly saw BBC2 putting on Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em and decided to show them how its really done. So not only do we start with a nostalgic music show, you then get 3 Christmas Specials of Suspect Quality one after another. Its a whole warm mug of cocoa of previous times, although I’m still not sure how well ‘Allo Allo! has aged but we’ll see.

2100 - ITV

You can always rely on ITV4 for a palate cleanser which is what we have here; JCVD cutting about a sporting arena punching terrorists. Its not exactly his best work, but it’ll do.

2100 - Great Movies

This year has hopefully seen the true coming of Comedy Ryan Gosling; his role has Ken in Barbie has made it clear that this man is a great comedic actor (which wasn’t a surprise to us Nice Guys fans out there) but its undeniable that his serious work is what got him to the dance. Which is what we have here, with arguably his breakthrough role in Drive followed by the film that re-teamed Gosling with the same director Nicolas Winding Refn. That second film wilts a bit somewhat in the shadow of the first but, hey, its still a pretty decent double bull

2240 - BBC1

These last few months our house has been all about Doctor Who returning to our screens which, frankly, has got me pretty jazzed; Christmas hasn’t felt like Christmas without a Who Xmas Special which is what we’re getting this year. Before that we get a documentary on Russel T Davies who has also returned to helm the show again. I enjoyed the specials, so will give this a watch to get ready for Christmas Day
