1240 - 5

New Year’s Eve is built for sticking a load of family films on in the background so here’s three for you. It’s a bit of a slope downwards in quality; you get two Robin Williams films in a row but Hook never really gets into gear whereas Jumanji gets much more right. Night at the Museum is probably the best of the series, it’s not exactly stellar but its heart is in the right place

1440 - BBC1

Yet another classic from Pixar, this one spinning its tale out of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations. This means that the art style looks amazing and it even works in one of the best Frida Kahlo jokes you’ll find in cinema

1845 - Channel 4

A worthy sequel to the first Indiana Jones film, this one however leans much heavier towards the action side of things. This makes it an absolute roller coaster ride of a film, but one that feels a bit empty

2325 - BBC2

Yeah, this is what you’ll be having on; it’s become the default thing to have on in the background whilst everyone mills around filling time before you get the midnight bit over with and then get back to wondering why you bought so much booze and where you’re going to put it once things go back to normal the next day

2335 - Film4

This is clearly the ideal thing to have on TV as the year ends; a dystopian tale of a society in collapse with only Snake Plissken standing between us and the bad guys. And is that the President or the criminals walled into Manhatten? WHO CAN SAY.
